Michelle Obama Loves to Spend…Our Money

In a recent trip to Spain the first lady brought a $97,000 secret service team, $157,000 for maintenance and gas on Air Force Two, and an estimated $60,000 in lodging a luxurious resort in Majorca.  15 million unemployed right?  Something doesn’t add up here.

  1. Ok, I had to respond:

    1) Should she not be allowed to leave the White House?

    2) If answer is no, would you have her go without the Secret Service?

    3) If yes, how would you feel about the amount of money + government time that would go into getting her back from hostage situation?

  3. I don’t understand why it is such a big deal. She has nothing to do with the economy being the way it is. The president and his family have a budget that they are alotted, she is not the first first lady to spend this kind of money so get off her ass. Maybe if the previous president hadn’t spent so much time fucking up the economy maybe 15 million wouldn’t be unemployed.

  5. This is not even fully true.

  6. RLS on March 23rd, 2011
  7. Whether its completely true or not, it does happen way more then it should. A posh resort? Come on, the Secret Service could protect her in a nice hotel room just as easily. And she wouldn’t need a a massive Secret Service team if the world didn’t hate her and her husband so much for screwing everything up AND not keeping their promises. Air Force 2 I can understand, that’s standard for the First Lady, any First Lady. But she doesn’t need to spend thousands on her ugly ass dresses, her resorts, etc. And her husband doesn’t need to go golfing when the world is in crisis.

I can’t wait for the next election, kick their asses out.

  9. First off the world doesn’t hate the Obamas. If she was to go out alone anyone would try to harm her just because she’s the first lady. Secondly, everyone seems to forget that unemployment was at its lowest while under Clinton and went into its highest while under Bush. Do you know realize that it only took Bush 8 yrs to send our economy into a downfall and its going to take more than 4 yrs for any president to fix it.

  11. I know it’s gotta be hard being the president and his family but remember that they chose this and they knew what they were getting into. I don’t think they should be locked up in the White House but with so many people out there struggling you would think they would be a little more considerate when spending America’s money.

  12. BByeahwhatever on March 24th, 2011
  13. So let’s see… Folks are mad that he hasn’t been able to fix the mess left behind by the previous tenants? OH and let’s not forget that almost HALF of the government would vote no on anything the other half proposed, even if it included officially acknowledging puppies and kittens as cute!

She isn’t the first First Lady to travel, she sure as heck won’t be the last… I’m fairly certain that most of her dresses are given to her by designers that are pleased as punch for the free advertising.

Seems to me some folks would complain even if everything was great. Oh but wait… we’re on a site to do just that… cause well it’s great for some and not others, that’s just not fair… complain about health care being socialist, but then want to take away other people’s money and redistribute it because you don’t like what they are doing with it… Really?

YEASH the hypocrisy boggles my poor little mind. I think I’ll go drink a glass of champagne and forget all about this for a spell.

  14. You must be kidding on March 27th, 2011
  15. One: The economic problem is global and not from the last President!

Two: The economic crysis is from idiots like this that blow other peoples money.

They rewarded the banks that cuased the problem and now this idiot is blowing more taxpayer money own her selfish ass!

    Wake up people!

  16. Frank on March 29th, 2011
  17. Are you better off now than you were say, two years ago? It’s the economy stupid!

  18. broketaxpayer on March 30th, 2011
  19. Really? Are you white knights for her serious? I guess now she can be proud of her country for the SECOND time in her life. Since now we fund her vacations. Get a grip people, the Obama’s are elitist, socialist, hypocrites.

    1. I am not mad that Obama hasn’t “fixed” anything, I’m mad that he is breaking more things.
    2. Both “halves of the government” agree on things constantly and pass new bills. Most of them just don’t make the news. The BIG ones that would be a mistake (read: Obamacare) you can go ahead and thank that one half for disagreeing.
    3. Government Run Healthcare IS socialist and the money you’re talking about “redistributing” is OUR tax money and we SHOULD have a say in how it is used.
    4. Great for some and not for others… fact of life. Never going to change. Does NOT mean that I should spend my money to make their life better. If that’s what I WANT to do then I will, by giving to a non-profit charity. Or if I am THAT rich, STARTING a non-profit charity. I know how to invest my money better than the government, obvious by the fact that things I invested in do well and I make money. I’m not in debt from terrible spending.

Take your brainless drivel elsewhere. Please, the rest of us are smart enough to see what the First Family really is.

  21. When Clinton took office, the unemployment rate spiked up to just over 8%. It then gradually fell to about 3.5% because the economy was in a natural upswing cycle. The upswing ended just BEFORE Bush took office, because of Clinton’s economic policies of the previous 8 years.

Then 9/11 happened, and the economy tanked, with unemployment rising to almost 6.5%. Over the next few years it dropped to just above 4% because of Bush’s economic policies.

In 2007 the Democrats took over Congress with an overwhelming majority, and unemployment shot up to 8.5% by 2009. (This is a faster climb then any that has been seen in the last 20 years, at least.)

Then Obama begins his reign of terror and unemployment goes up by more than 2% in ONE YEAR!!! It is currently hovering around 9.5%.

But even that doesn’t tell the whole story. 9.5% is the UNADJUSTED unemployment rate. It should be adjusted for people who:

    1) Retired early instead of looking for a new job (but would have prefered to continue working)

    2) People who are drastically underemployed, (people working for way less than they used to, just to put food on the table)

    3) People who would like to have a job, but have stopped looking (because of frustration or whatever)

These factors actually make the unemployment rate around 20%.

I haven’t seen figures for adjustments under Bush, but let’s assume that it is also double, which it wouldn’t be, logically. At the peak of unemployment under Bush it would have only been about 13%, which is just a little over the UNadjusted rate with Obama shoving socialist policies down our throats.

I don’t care about them taking vacations and everything else they do when they are away from the White House. So long as he isn’t doing the job he never should have had in the first place, things aren’t getting worse.

  22. Smarter Than Liberals on April 1st, 2011
  23. This is silly. The POTUS and his family pay for their own expenses. The security and special travel are employee benefits and also part of the image of the power of the United States.

  24. JET on April 7th, 2011
  25. She can take vacations. That’s fair. And she HAS to have the secret service and Air Force 2 to do that…she can’t travel without protection or fly economy on Delta. And I’m sure she and her husband paid for her $60,000 lodgings. Their family isn’t exactly hurting for money. Yes, it’s a little in-your-face, but they are REAL people and a real family. They deserve a little time off on occasion.

  26. SillyGoose on April 8th, 2011
  27. Whoever wrote this piece obviously has no comprehension or understanding of how the government, politics, and the Obama’s situation actually works. The money spent was the Obama’s PERSONAL money, 0% was tax payer funded. Research next time before making stupid accusations and baseless claims.

  28. Reanna on April 8th, 2011
  29. Oh yeah it’s Obama’s “personal” money.. IE the leftovers of the powerhouse that payed for his campaign using that loophole with the anonymous 200$ limit internet donations.

Somewhere… a community is missing its organizer.. please.. take him back NOW…

  30. TruthHurts on April 14th, 2011
  31. So Hikari seems to think the world hates the US because of Obama, that everybody in the US hates Obama. What about his predecessor? Didn’t an awful lot of people hate him? I think you need to look at the wider picture and put aside your petty party politics and grow up. Anybody with 3 brain cells to rub together can see that the whole system is broken. When 100% of personal growth in terms of wealth goes to the richest 1% of the population you know there is something wrong. That’s right, the top 1% richest people gained wealth and EVERYBODY else either stayed the same or became poorer. That is a broken system rightthere. It’s not Obama, its not Dubya, it’s the whole system and yet people are too bloody stupid and short sighted to get their heads out of their asses and do something about it.

  32. slart on April 16th, 2011
  33. The Obamas have spent much more than the $400k salary that Barack makes as President and however much Michelle makes ( does she even work anymore? ). They use the guise of “Presidential duties” as a cover for vacations and other personal uses, and include the Secret Service and anything else they can use that doesn’t require their own money. Yes, she gets clothing and such from designers – same as many celebrities. Their personal spending even before the Presidency was more than they made annually, and they continue to do it now but now have the taxpayers’ money to cover up the difference. The economy’s problems aren’t from them though – we won’t really see the effects of anything that a President does until at least 8 years later, though there’s other factors to consider. Barack is going to drive the US into hell and be laughing all the way down, spending all its money while he gets his dick sucked by the Democrats.

  34. Sachimi on April 21st, 2011
  35. ok i have to agree the world might not hate the obamas but for the most part we dang sure dont like them. they have done nothing for our country or our people. and u can be shure he WILL NOT be reelected. we want him out of office.

  37. Wow, how funny to read you people’s ignorant comments. Looks like most of you drank the purple kool-aid. Some of you should try to read things for yourselves instead of listening to mainstream media for your political savvy.

  38. ohsuzykuew on May 14th, 2011
  39. It’s funny, the “hew Bush-heads” now labaled “Obamamanics” will defend the Obamas no matter what. Sure they can take vacations, but let’s fix the problems first. This is Obama’s economy. His policies have made this mess, it’s time to take responsibility. How long do you guys plan to blame Bush? Wake-up.

Genreally for us little folk vacation comes after a job well-done and it comes maybe once or twice a year.

  42. Nicole C. on July 15th, 2011
  43. @ Joeblow…We’ll stop blaming Bush when we stop spending TRILLIONS of dollars on the 2 never-ending wars that HE started. A good Special Ops. team could have found Bin Laden and took him out for a HELLUVA lot less! Iraq should never have even been in the picture…BTW, WHERE are those WMDs? This country went to hell in a handbasket when Dubya gave his cronies the tax cuts and Haliburton the no bid contracts! Come on now…This ain’t rocket science!

  44. Tammy Webb on July 26th, 2011
  45. First of all, stop blaming the damn president, he was voted into office by Americans…nothing you can do about it but wait till it’s time for him to go. Second, while I personally don’t care for them, they are entitled to take trips, vacations etc whatever. The plane and security service are part of their life, whether they want to spend that money or not, they have to have it. Third, don’t blame Bush for the war, I was in the military at the time of 9-11 and wanted nothing more then go over seas and seek retribution. My view of that has since changed but our entire country was up in arms over that, it wasn’t just him. Our economy is slowly but surely fixing itself without the help of administrators in some cases. People are learning to be more self efficient and that’s a good thing. Yes, the country as a whole is in a state of crisis, but no one can fix it but us and it starts by standing up and taking action, not putting the blame on someone else.

  47. Don’t like socialized medicine? Great! Give up your Medicare and pay for your own insurance. We are the ONLY industrialized nation in the world without National Health. What sort of people actually prefer to see their fellow citizens go without health care?

  48. Lady Anne on September 1st, 2011
  49. There is no difference between what is spent on the Obamas and what was spent on the Bush family. The ONLY difference is that it’s a different group of hypocrites displaying their bias.

The saddest thing about all this is that the US, which used to be the most powerful and influential country in the world, is so torn by polarized infighting that it can’t even agree on passing a budget. It’s time to stop squabbling like little kids and grow up. Whatever you think of Obama he was correct about one thing, the US and indeed the world needs to change. He may not be the man to make those changes, but until the people we elect to govern us stop merely looking at heir own petty interests and start looking at the whole picture we are all doomed. And until we, the voters, demand quality, responsibility, honesty, integrity and vision from our politicians we will be saddled with them and nothing will change except the poor will continue to get poorer and the rich will get richer.

  50. slart on September 1st, 2011
  51. Oh and for those who keep blaming Obama for this mess and stating that it’s a global recession and not the fault of any one president, just remember that the single thing which triggered this economic mess was the failure of our economic institutions to act responsibly and treat money like it actually meant something. The policies allowing sub prime mortgages were begun under Clinton, but under W they were allowed to flourish and took on ridiculous proportions. It’s too abstract for these people who, while we worked and paid for our houses lined their pockets with that money and then took the bail out money whilst we lost it all. Have you noticed that the people who do the work have lost billions whilst the self-important idiots who got us into this mess are actually richer in many cases? We need change, and we need it now

  52. slart on September 1st, 2011
  53. ok, the Obama’s were lawyers BEFORE he became PRESIDENT! also, i have NOT seen these many complains the ENTIRE time Bush was in Office. Bush screwed us left and right. he brought the country to its knees but there were no complaints. and since everyone has something to say, the Stockmarket crashed the day Obama was voted President, because all the rich white folks pulled their money out of holding. Obama came into a mess!!! no matter what he does right or wrong everyone is SO DANG quick to critize him/them. they had money before he became President!!! stop trying to blame him for all of the countries problems. he is not the reason the unemployment rate is rising. everytime you turn around there is another business closing because people cant afford to patronize it!
people look at someone else to blame.

  54. dyamondiva on September 16th, 2011
  55. So tell me again, what is a Senators wage?, and what is a wage for being President? Correct me if I’am wrong but I do not believe it is in the millions of dollars…… it?
